Finished an audiobook

Finished The Deep, Deep Snow and it was good! I decided to give it 5 stars. I think of it as more as 4.5 stars, I didn’t love it as much as I’ve loved other 5 star books, but it was one of the more entertaining audiobooks I’ve listened to, so I wanted to give it 5 stars. Found out the author, Brian Freeman is the author of Thief River Falls, a book I forgot was on my tbr list.

I started listening to Blood, Sweat and Pixels while gaming today (Animal Crossing, Story of Seasons, Stardew Valley) because I wanted to hear the story of the guy who created Stardew Valley. I’m on that chapter now. The rest of the book is a little boring, so I figure it’s a good thing to listen to while playing games, I won’t care too much if I happen to miss something. I had been listening to A Killer Among Us, a true crime story, while gaming, that started interesting but the next thing I knew it was boring.

Started listening to The Handyman again today while doing dishes. That story is good!

Wednesday the Inauguration day was fantastic. It was a breath of fresh air. I did have to work but I had CNN on subtitles while I was working. It all turned out better than I could have expected and I loved the ending with Katy Perry singing Firework and the fireworks show. I’ve watched it over and over.

Trying to decide if I’m keeping Audible? My yearly membership is almost up. I may write about that soon.

Math

It’s occurring to me today that if I want to meet my 120 books for the year goal I made at Goodreads, I’ll need to read an average of 10 books a month. I should be able to do it, last year I read an average of 12 books a month. So far this month I’ve read 5 and I should be able to finish up 5 more.

The Deep, Deep Snow is getting good. It’s about the search for a missing boy in a small town near a national forest (I think). Hoping to finish it up in about 3 days. After I finish that I’ll continue with The Handyman. Still reading Swipe and Genesis. Should have them done by the end of this week or sooner.

Genesis is a Jack Stapleton book, I’ve been a fan of that series since I read Chromosome 6, and that book came out in 1998 and I am not sure what year I read it. But I loved it. Reading Genesis makes me nostalgic for some of the past books – there are some I’ve read more than once, like Chromosome 6. I bought Contagion (book 2) on Kindle today, even though I’m pretty sure I’ve read it, it was $1.99 and I’ll read it again someday. Went through my old documents and discovered there is a prior book in the series I haven’t read yet, called Cure, so I’ll need to read that one someday.

Anyway, Genesis is a little different because Jack and his wife Laurie are kind of on the sidelines and this other character is doing the sleuthing. I’m still liking it.

Some other news, my boyfriend and I made it to disc 2 in season 3 of Supernatural yesterday. This is a good season and I’m eager to get to season 4 also. We also watched this touching movie called “I can only Imagine” which is based on a true story. We walked to the store yesterday and I bought a paperback copy of The Broken Girls, which was on my library tbr list, so now it’s moved to my physical books owned tbr list.

Games update

I realized I haven’t updated the games I’m playing here lately. Today I played Burger Shop 2 – which I play a lot of and will probably be playing for all time. I’ve restarted that game so much. Also played Cooking Fever. A little over a week ago when my computer was broke (I can’t remember if I wrote about it here) and I was considering just getting a new computer, the two thoughts on my mind was all my word docs with my books read for every year since 2002 – I was going to be heartbroken if I lost them all, (I think I emailed most of them to myself once my computer was running again), and my progress on Cooking Fever. But fortunately I found someone who picks up the computer, fixes it and brings it back which is just what I need since I don’t have a car and my computer is huge.

My son gave me 3 nice games for the Nintendo Switch, Story of Seasons Friends of Mineral Town which is basically Harvest Moon, I’ve been playing that one the most and I played it today. He also gave me Immortals Fenyx Rising and Rune Factory 4. Playing Rune Factory makes me feel nostalgic for the first Rune Factory game, which I played on the little Nintendo DS. I also played Animal Crossing today, I play that every day most of the time. Today Louie is moving. Tomorrow I need to find a new villager. (PS. My son has Louie too I noticed)

Mid January update

I started listening to The Handyman by Bentley Little on my phone, so I would have something to listen to on the phone while I do chores. It’s good so far! I’ve been listening to The Deep, Deep Snow on the computer and I’m not sure what I think of it so far, but it’s okay. Been reading Swipe and Genesis, both are good, Swipe just started out getting more interesting, I hope it stays that way it would be fun to read yet another good dystopian. I haven’t been reading my two Christian books on the currently reading list and I’m wondering how slow those are going to go. I’m also wondering when I’ll finish The Shadow And Night which is my slow read on the Kindle, it’s a long book. I’m around 65% done. It’s a reread for me. I can’t remember at all if I updated here that I finished Scythe? I loved it! Awesome dystopian, gave it 5 stars. I started Swipe after finishing it. Funny that they are both paperbacks with one word names that start with an S. And dystopians.

I’m hoping to finish Swipe and Genesis before the month is over, shouldn’t be a problem, and at least one of the audiobooks I’m listening to. That would be at least 8 books for the month, and I’m hoping I can squeeze in one or two more, or at least get them started. Next month I hope to have All the Missing Girls and The Troop finished for my physical books, and New York Night and maybe The Kingdom for Kindle books.

Finished a couple of books

Today I finished 2 books, The Nesting, which I enjoyed, and The Night Film, which was a reread. I started reading Genesis by Robin Cook as my next Kindle book. I think the next audiobook I will listen to is The Deep, Deep Snow, a thriller. I was tempted by the newest Audible sale and had several titles in mind to purchase but decided just on Kill Creek, which was definitely on my to-buy-list, and then picked Harlan Coben’s The Boy From The Woods, since my library does not have an audio copy. A couple of other titles I was considering – Before She Knew Him, and The Ten Thousand Doors of January, do have audiobook copies at the library so I will just listen to library copies. (Btw Kill Creek isn’t an audiobook at the library either). A couple of other books I was considering are relatively cheap on Amazon and if I ever do Kindle Unlimited again I can read them that way – Tear Me Apart and What Lies Between Us. Also realized I want to read Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell, and it is available at the library either by ebook or audiobook.

Four books read so far this year, I’m excited to get started on some new books!

TBR Audiobooks

I’m almost done with Night Film, which is a reread for me. I’m not liking it as much as I did the first time and it’s probably because it’s an audiobook and I sometimes lose focus on the story and then I’m not sure what’s happening anymore. If that happens with a print book it’s easy to go back and reread.

Anyway, I have 4 hours left so I should be done with it on Tues night.

2021 Update

I finished my first book of 2021 today, A Tale of Magic, which I started reading last year back in October and put on pause for awhile. It was good! I’m still listening to the audiobook of Night Film, have been trying to listen to 2 hours a day but have not been able to be consistent. I have 10 hours left so I think I might still be able to finish it by next week. I will start reading Scythe today – paperback – since I am done with A Tale of Magic. Still reading Follow the Crow on Kindle and I chose to start reading a spiritual book in paperback, Enjoying God. I set my reading goal for 2021 to 120 books, and I should be able to do it since I made it to 145 books for 2020.
